Indications/Uses
Exflem Treatment of resp conditions associated w/ productive cough & thick viscous hypersecretion eg, acute & chronic bronchitis & its exacerbation, pulmonary emphysema, cystic fibrosis & bronchiectasis. Exflem 200 Secretolytic therapy in cases of acute & chronic pulmonary diseases accompanied by impaired formation & transport of mucus.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Exflem tab Adult 1 effervescent tab once daily preferably in the evening. Duration of treatment: 5-10 days for acute disorders; continue treatment for several mth for chronic disorders. Granules Adult & childn >14 yr 1 sachet once daily. Duration of treatment: Acute disorders: 5-10 days. Exflem 200 Adult & adolescent ≥14 yr 1 powd sachet bid-tid (equiv to 400-600 mg/day). Childn & adolescent 6-14 yr 1 powd sachet bid (equiv to 400 mg/day). Mucoviscidosis Childn & adolescent >6 yr 1 powd sachet tid (equiv to 600 mg/day).
Administration
Should be taken with food: Dissolve powd in a glass of liqd (water, tea or juice) after meals.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Exflem Increased vol of liquefied bronchial secretions may occur. Carefully observe asthmatics under treatment. Discontinue if bronchospasm occurs. Patients w/ history of PUD due to risk of GI hemorrhage. Sulfur-like odor (does not indicate an alteration of the product). Phenylketonurics. Exflem 200 SJS & Lyell's syndrome. Discontinue if cutaneous & mucosal alteration occur. Patients w/ bronchial asthma & history of ulcer; histamine intolerance; DM. Avoid long-term therapy (which may lead to symptoms of intolerance). Increased vol of liquified bronchial secretion. Fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or saccharase-isomaltase deficiency. May be damaging to teeth (caries). Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Exflem Hypersensitivity reactions including urticaria, pruritus, angioedema, bronchospasm, hypotension or HTN may occasionally occur. Headache, flushing, nausea, vomiting, fever, syncope, drowsiness, tinnitus, chills, sweating/clamminess, chest tightness, arthralgia, blurred vision, disturbances of liver function, acidosis, convulsions, bronchoconstriction, irritation to the trachea & bronchial tracts, & cardiac or resp arrest; hemoptysis, rhinorrhea & stomatitis. Exflem 200 Uncommon: Headache, fever, allergic reactions; tinnitus; stomatitis, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, diarrhoea.
Drug Interactions
Exflem Do not mix w/ other medicines. Exflem 200 May cause a dangerous secretory congestion w/ antitussives. Reduced effect w/ activated charcoal. Inactivation of antibiotics (tetracyclines, aminoglycosides, penicillins). May enhance the vasodilative & anti-platelet effects of glyceryl trinitrate. Potential hypotension w/ nitroglycerin. May affect colorimetric assays of salicylates. May affect the results in urine tests. Do not dissolve together w/ other medicines.
